As someone who has seen the import value of Widex hearing aids, they are overpriced.

Wow nice, I’m working since 10 years as an audiologist and the hearing aids that are coming on the market in next years are improving connectivity and streaming. Personal question: these look like Widex Beyond Fusion. What different Hearing aids did you test?

There are several companies trying to make affordable hearing aids. I discovered this one in about 2013. http://www.ihearmedical.com// Please check them out.

Thank you for the comments on the hearing aids. I went through a similar transformative experience with the them just a couple years ago. I would also add that people should look into whether their state or county offers a vocational rehab option. In Indiana there is a program designed to help people remain employed (not income based) that deferes a significant portion of the cost. I too bought the high end model, and paid $1200 instead of $6500.

I am an Acusticion, Thank you Adam for talking about your Hearing Aids. 7 grand? Holy sh... they connect to the iphone? Direct streaming? Widex does make nice stuff. Don´t know how much they are here in Germany. Hearing Aids are a part of our health ensurance system. there are pairs of then that cost only 10 € for each hearing aid. (it´s a prescribtion fee) nothing else, health ensurance agencys pay once every 6 years in Germany, so people can get them even if they have low income or don´t want to spend much money

My wife, 35, needs hearing aids and her life was drastically improved when we were able to get her some through a state grant program. They are now about 7 years old and are wearing out. To replace them is prohibitively expensive and not a cent is covered by insurance. I'm not sure what we're going to do when they finally stop working. Like you, Adam, I have no problem with a maker profiting from their product but the markups for these devices is criminal. I sincerely hope that someone comes along and makes a quality device for more people to afford and use.

About the hearing aids: Had the same reaction (the "Oh my god my life is so much better") when I got my glasses. For quite a lot of years I didn't thought of getting glasses (something around 10 or so years). When I was 17 I constantly had problems reading the board in school so my teacher kinda told me: "Either you get glasses or I'm gonna sit you right next to me". While I liked him (as a teacher xD) I went and got myself glasses. The very first moment when I put them on was mind blowing. I could finally see stuff that was impossible before. I can't believe how I lived without them before. (Which reminds me that I need new glasses xD)

the hearing aid comment really struck home with me as a child of the age of 5 i had to wear hearing aids..in school i was made fun of but it helped me hear better so i continued to wear them.. i remember back then not being able to wear them in the lunch room because the sound of everyone talking so loudly was very headache inducing so i took them off durring lunch... laid them on my tray every single day but one day i accidentally threw them away as we just dump our tray at the end of lunch..which lead to me and my mother going to the school after hours (when i truly realized it) to find them.. they still worked over the years my hearing aids wore down i got a new pair and they wore down aswell having them for around 6-7 years ofcourse everyday use is going to eventually break something so small now at the age of 28 i work a job where i make 8 dollars an hour working 37 hours a week i cant afford them watching your video really struck me i had tears in my eyes its very true that people cannot afford hearing aids but i do want to mention something your right about people thinking "oh im gonna seem like an old person if i get these" the problem with that isnt only the assumption that only old people wear them but also any pamphlet or book about them usually have the generic male or female in it thats around 70-80 years old.. maybe now its diffrent i had those books over 20 years ago thank you adam! for being so genuine and pointing this out about the medical industry!

I do have to agree about Augmented Reality being the wave of the future. VR is great, but AR applications extend much further, IMO. Google glass was just so far ahead of it's time it could only render the tiniest tip of that iceberg and only is a way that was a fairly poor user experience. Eventually, AR could significantly enhance our daily lives in much the way smartphones did. The hardwear and user interfaces still have light years to go before they realize even a small fraction of the potential in a way most people can appreciate. I just hope that happens before it becomes too costly from a development standpoint.

Only in the US can they make up a number that is nothing close to the cost of making hearing aids. Those things shouldn't cost anyone more than 2000 dollars at the most. The real criminals are working in the healthcare sector in the US.

Hearing aids are very expensive indeed. I wrote my master's thesis regarding hearing aids (actually in collaboration with Widex). During this period I found the reason for the insane prices; R&D and custom made ICs. A hearing aid is not just an amplifier and speaker anymore - it is so much more than that. R&D costs a lot of money to achieve a more real-life sound perception as normal hearing. I do love that you are openly talk about using hearing aids. More people should do that so that people who might need it will go to a professional. An open source project could be really really cool though!

When I borrowed my cousin's Magic Leap One, I had a similar experience where I fired one of the Grordbort's weapons that had an arcing trajectory and it went out of the window above my front door and I saw it through the window in the door as it landed in my cul-de-sac. There was something very compelling about that the way it treated the area outside of the scan.

I know I'm way late to this party, but there's a company called Delight that makes hearing aids powered by WattUp, which is a wireless charging system made by Energous. For now, they have to be set on the charging pad to charge, but they're working on a system (that Energous has made) that allows devices to charge wirelessly from a distance, and their end goal is wireless charging up to 15 feet. It will definitely take a while for that technology to evolve and get approval, but it makes me so excited for the future of technology!

Thank you so much for advocating for hearing aids. My son who is now 10, has been wearing cross talk hearing aids for almost two years now. When he was 8 we discovered he was completely deaf in one ear. The cross talk hearing aids allow him to hear from his deaf side and it makes a huge difference. Especially say he's playing a sport or in classroom. They would sit him with his good ear towards the teacher, now he doesn't need special placement or sitting arraignments. So it makes him more typical.
