New Star Trek discovery can suck my balls , hates white men , a second in command that can’t follow any commands telling captain pike what to do ? One of the most decorated captains then that not funny chick on the asteroid keeping everyone alive is absolutely horrible can’t stress that enough. Only thing going for it is visuals and that’s it. Orville all the way !

I'm currently on the 3rd episode. It's way better than STD. It's hilarious and entertaining. It's not like STD where I find myself cringing every so often.

I don't understand the appeal of these critic scores. The best way to get advice from critics is to find just one or two critics who correlate the best with your own views, and then pay attention to their opinions. For me, it was Roger Ebert. That was all I needed.

I absolutely agree. The Orville IS the next Star Trek. I liked the first 1 or 2 episodes of Discovery, but then it just got messier and messier. Discovery feels like a generic SciFi shooter with the Starfleet logo patched on surfaces and uniforms. The only likable character is Saru...

I enjoy The Orville and Discovery. In the newest Orville episode Seth made some direct references to Discovery by having an officer named Tyler actually be an alien in disguise. The EXACT same thing happened last season on Discovery. Seth M. is sending a very direct message to Star Trek fans including you Nerdrotic guy. Seth M. is trying to show you that he approves of Discovery enough to make direct references to it along with other Trek shows. It is perfectly possible to like both shows for different reasons and I do. Follow Seth's lead you can enjoy multiple types of show at once.

The critics are mostly SJW's these days, they like everything that preaches their political ideology and they hate anything that questions it regardless of quality. They're not critics anymore, they're social commentators pushing a political ideology.

I feel like critics seem to focus on what series/movies do new/ different or sometimes even politically correct rather than if it's funny, investing or has interesting themes and characters.

Never been a fanboy of anything (OK full disclosure, The Expanse finally hooked me 2 years ago - first TV series that ever made me read the books), so canon and continuity means nothing to me. In that regard I not only love ALL Star Wars movies (Episodes 1, 2 and 3 not so much), I love The Orville (disagree that it is like STTNG....it is decidedly STTOS), and absolutely love Discovery (even more so now that episode 201 has aired) And you know what, I don't give a damn if it screws with timelines and canon...time to move on....Hell Battlestar Galactica reboot, the Cylons were created by man as personal assistants instead of being created by human hating lizard creatures as weapons (which would have been canon), and nobody bitched because the show was so vastly superior.

+Severin Dahl Sorry, never really thought about it...a few certainly are, but I really don't pay attention to a fictional character's race or gender when it comes to intelligence or capabilities. To be honest, I don't really pay attention to such things in the real world either. It has been my experience, that when one is fortunate enough to be tasked with doing something they are good at and enjoy doing, they WILL excel, whether they stand or sit to pee is rarely a consideration (just as their ancestry is not). Wouldn't the world be a better place without such white patriarchal concepts? (and isn't that what Gene Roddenberry tried to tell us for decades)

So much jealousy rings through these so called expert critics, you get the feeling that they've been waiting for the day to talk shit about the Creator of Family Guy nothing more, why else would they feel the need to throw some shade on family guy as being frat boy humour which in essence isn't anything more than a bunch of dick-jokes---better sound the Jelly alarm here---

Is it not possible to assume one big critic didn't like it and the others followed suit? As for the Orville itself it's a decent enough show, wouldn't have minded some more edgy jokes and or gore but if you wanna make a family friendly space exploration show, this is definitely how it's done..

The Orville isn't an amazing show or anything, but it's a better Star Trek show then Discovery is. I have plenty of things about the show I don't like, but honestly most of those were elements of the old Star Treks that I didn't like too.

for the "critics" there aren't a lot of SJW driven, social issue episodes, so no one wants to back it and it's hard to push agenda-driven content on this show. Seth Macfarlane truly carries the legacy of Gene Roddenberry. This is good old-fashioned Sci-Fi!

Critic Liz Shannon Miller totally flipped her review of orville, 3 days after this video(for her season 2review.) she still hates the show, read her atricle but gave it a B. Reviews are trash, watch whatever you want form yourself and like whatever shows you like. who cares what someone you never met thinks.

This is all extremely misleading. Not necessarily "wrong", strictly speaking, but the information is not accurate. Season 1 is at 28% for the critics' scores, and 94% for the audience. Season 2 is at 100% (because supposedly there is no "critics' consensus" yet) for critics, and 93% for the audience. Its overall series score is 64% from the critics (because of the artificial inflation of the 100% from season 2), and 94% from the audience. The season 1 critics' reviews are as negative as their score would suggest. The season 2 critics' reviews are so far fairly forgiving, if not outright positive. No audience reviews have been posted at all. It could just be that people don't have anything to say. But considering the audience comments on similarly rated shows, and also shows like STD, I'm forced to entertain the notion that Rotten Tomatoes is actively purging any positive audience reviews of the show, in spite of the improving critics' ratings for it. Perhaps they've just forgotten to stop doing that? Either way, that is the accurate information on the shows RT ratings.

Season 1 was good... Season 2 is just a soap opera in space. No actual "sci-fi". Just, couples going through couples therapy and Hostage situations. BORING. Very disappointed. I was hoping for my mind to be BLOWN!.

I haven't watched Discovery, but The Orille is basically a High Production value Trek Fanfiction. I watch it because it's entertaining, but it has none of the dramatic value or depth of character of ST:NG. Starfleet and The Union are vastly different entities and The Orville really has to be considered on its own merit. Anyone who watches it has to be realize that where ST relies on drama, Orville relies on comedy. Ultimately it makes the show feel shallow. If Futurama had run a spinoff series about Zapp Brannigan, it'd probably be doing as well as The Orville. The Orville is well done sci-fi pulp fiction so it's a guilty pleasure and that's why people watch it.

The split makes perfect sense, as the acting and stage direction is much better in dr who and STD. All three spout social commentary, and all three are shamelessly liberal. The one thing Orville does well is package left-wing propaganda in humor and attitude that would attract any 14 y/o boy. It’s stealth liberalism, which is exactly what the original Star Trek did so well.

Massive Star Trek fan since I was a young kid. The Orville is the best new show on network TV. The fact that it feels like a sci-fi show cast with real people and the way it handles real social issues very well make it awesome. The critics WAY missed the boat on this one.
